ClearAir is a dome like structure invented some years before by Dr. Louis Cypher, who predicted the effects of the air pollution and researched for some type of protection against it. His research led into the invention of ClearAir, which he was able to distribute around his laboratory.

The “dome” was primarily a test to filter the polluted air into Top, but afterwards modifications were made so those living under it would see the “clear blue sky” that was so often read about in old poetry and literature but that now had become more of a legend.

After it became obvious that ClearAir prevented those living under it from contracting Aerosis, a city was built around the doctor’s laboratory by the elitist members of society and the island was soon called Top, referring to the high rise building structures that most of the Topians live in.

Plans were made to increase the extent of the dome so that it would cover the coastal part of the city as well, however, as having Aerosis became a distinctive feature between those who could afford to live in the high rise community and those who could not, the doctor was pressured by his research funders into dropping his efforts to do so.
