Eve is the protagonist of the story and a resident of Des.

From a young age, she is employed in the Recycling Department of the Disposal and Recycling Facility. Located on the very edge of Des, the DRF is responsible for the disposal and recycling of the waste created by Top. It is connected to Top through a system of tunnels through which the waste material is transported between Top and Des.

Like most Des residents, she received only a basic education, however, through a love of reading and self-improvement, she “borrowed” certain reading material that she was able to find among the recycling waste she sorts through for work.

Unlike other Des residents, Eve has yet to contract Aerosis. As a child, she was chided and rejected for this by many who thought of her as a Topian. After some time, she learned to use materials around her to paint marks on herself so that she could fit in and not attract attention.

At the start of the story, Eve is recruited by a rebel group of Des residents.
