Dr. Louis Cypher is the inventor of ClearAir and through it the elitist society of Top.

The Topians revere him almost like a god and consider themselves indebted to him for their quality of life. For the same reason, he is loathed by the residents of Des, who blame him for their poverty and misery.

Because of the pressure from the Topians and the funders for his research, he was unable to improve the quality of life for the residents of Des during his lifetime, something that he regretted very much.

After his death, Cypher Laboratories was handed down to his son, who willingly accepted funding for research that favored the Topians in creating a bigger gap between them and the Desians.

In the present, Cypher Laboratories is under the management of Dr. Lou Cypher, the grandson of the former and the son of the latter. Like his grandfather, he is more interested in the science aspect of his work, rather than the diplomatic one.
